Making Life Easier

The best utilities are the ones you don't even realise are there, they sit there doing their job, beavering away without complaint. These utilities are rarely interesting as a broad concept, that's why they were created - to prevent (or reduce) the frustration of repetitive and complex tasks, but every now and then you have crack open or create a utility yourself.
Creating these utilities can be an enlightening journey of discovery. As you expose each component of your process, you examine it in detail, optimising and tweaking before assembling it into a single entity. I only mention this because it's a process I went through today and at the end of it I had nice sense of accomplishment knowing I'd made my life a little easier.
